Camillo Villegas – Professional Golf Player

Camillo Villegas might be known to some as one of the best-looking and best-dressed players in the professional game, but he's also a hell of a golfer.

Born in Medellín, Colombia, he took up the game as a child. After enjoying great success in the youth tournaments, in 2001 Camillo Villegas became only the second player to win the Colombian Open as an amateur. His success in Colombian golf throughout the 1990s earned him the distinction of "Player of the Decade" issued by the Colombian Golf Federation.

Camillo Villegas earned a scholarship to play collegiate golf at the University of Florida, where he continued to excel and it was only a matter of time before he turned professional.

Camillo Villegas began playing on the PGA Tour in 2004 and earned his Tour card just prior to the 2006 season. He had a blistering start to his 2006 rookie year on Tour, with two second-place finishes and a third place (at The Players Championship) in his first nine events.

Camillo Villegas won his second professional event at the Coca-Cola Tokai Classic on the Japan Golf Tour in September 2007 and was next successful in the TELUS Skins Game in June 2008, where he defeated a field that included Greg Norman, Colin Montgomerie, Mike Weir and Fred Couples.

In September 2008 Camillo Villegas won his first PGA Tour title, the BMW Championship, by two shots over Dudley Hart. Buoyed by the win, he promptly followed up with another victory in The Tour Championship, beating Sergio García in a play-off, having trailed by five shots going into the final round.

That was the first year in which Camillo Villegas had qualified for all four Majors, but he secured two top-10 finishes in the US Open and US PGA.

Still a raw player with several jagged edges, big-hitting Villegas is a tremendously exciting talent. Renowned for his commitment to physical fitness, in the June 2006 issue of Golf Digest Camillo Villegas was named "the sexiest player on Tour, Tiger Woods included.".
