Phil Mickelson is set to return to the PGA Tour before the US Open gets underway at Bethpage Black later this month.
According to the Associated Press, a source close to the American golfer said that he is planning to play the St Jude Classic in Memphis next week before heading to the US Open on June 18th.
"We heard there was a possibility he would play. That would be great," St Jude Classic spokesperson Phil Cannon told the AP.
Mickelson recently announced an indefinite break from the tour after his wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Initial tests are thought to have been encouraging and doctors are hopeful that the cancer has been caught early, although she will face further tests and could undergo surgery later this month.
His wife's condition will determine whether Mickelson makes the trip to Turnberry for the British Open in July, but for now he appears set to challenge at the US Open, where he has been a runner-up on four occasions.
