Ian Poulter was still left frustrated despite England shooting the lowest round in the final-day foursomes at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup.
The world number 14 represented England for the second year in succession with fellow top-20 golfer Ross Fisher and they improved on their performance from 12 months ago by finishing fourth, three shots behind winners Italy.
However, failing to start the tournament brightly was a thorn in their side again, as in spite of shooting a 64 in the closing-round foursomes, they still never got close enough to exert any real pressure on the leaders.
Poulter said: "We've hit every fairway, every green. We have had 18 birdie looks, a couple of eagle looks and we shot eight under par, which is a great score in foursomes.
"And I really do feel that we left a few shots out there today (November 30th). So even though it's a great score, I'm disappointed and I think Ross will be disappointed as well. I think we could have shot, no joke, 12 under par."
The English golfers registered eight birdies without dropping a shot and blazed home by picking up shots on five of their last six holes.
Meanwhile, the two bogeys they carded in the second-round foursomes were the only dropped shots the pair conceded in the whole tournament.
